About 'brandon weeden cleveland'-It Sucks To Be Brandon Weeden, Vol. 5: The Browns Are Already Publicly Wondering Whether Brandon Weeden Is Any Good
There are few things as unpredictable in fantasy football as a fresh crop of rookies. For every Cam Newton that a new season ferrets out there is a Jimmy Clausen that doesn't quite live up to expectations. To help Fantasy Owners follow how this year's crop of rookies are doing, here is a week by week breakdown of the top performers (starting with week 2). WEEK 2: Here are the top performing rookies in week two of the 2012 season. Doug Martin (Buccaneers) RB Proving he was worth a first round pick, Doug Martin continued to impress. Martin showcased his skills late in the second quarter when he took a handoff up the middle, found no daylight, spun to the outside and then easily outraced the Giants for to the end zone for an 8 yard touchdown. Martin's effort against the Giants followed a fine 24 carry, 94 yards debut against Carolina this year. Fantasy owners should not overlook the fact that Martin can catch the ball out of the backfield as well. Trent Richardson (Cleveland) RB Richardson, who spent part of the preseason injured, showed he has arrived in the NFL with a fine performance against state rival Cincinnati, in which he gained 109 yards rushing. Early on in the game Richardson took a draw play in for a 32 yard touchdown and then added a second touchdown later on a reception. So if he is not at least your number two running back this season, he should be. Robert Griffin III (Washington) QB RG III is looking more and more like this year's version of Cam Newton. Serving notice during his debut by throwing 320 yards (with two touchdowns) against the Saints, Griffin III had a marvelous game against the Rams in week two, rushing for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter and then connecting on a 68 yard touchdown pass in the second before adding a second rushing score in the third. It's still a long season, but his high completion percentage and poise indicate that he is the real thing and should be a first round pick in most fantasy leagues next season. Andrew Luck (Indianapolis) QB Peyton who? Luck is doing his best to make Colt's fan forget Manning. After throwing for 309 yards with one touchdown (3 interceptions) in the season opener, Luck lead the Colts to a 23-20 victory over the Vikings during week two, throwing for 224 yards and two touchdowns in the process. Should he be staring for you? No. Is he fast becoming a good backup option? Yes. Pickup Luck and keep him if you are able. Lamar Miller (Dolphins) RB Miller is a must have as a handcuff back if you rolled the die on Reggie Bush this season. Still, despite his backup role, the former Hurricane star showed signs of things to come by gaining 65 yards on 10 carries against the Raiders. Never mind that the Raiders gave up 263 yards on the ground, Miller appears to be the real thing. A 15 yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter punctuated his week two effort. With a little luck he is still available for pickup in most leagues. Brandon Weeden (Cleveland) QB Lost somewhere beneath the mountain of press dedicated to RGIII and Luck is Brandon Weeden. The 28 year old rookie is not only starting in Cleveland but also turned in an outstanding week two performance with 322 yards passing and two touchdown. His performance probably comes as a surprise to anyone who saw his shaky opener against the Eagles. It's too early to tell how Weeden will turn out this season, but there are worse backup options in the league. if you are hurting in the position, he is worth a look. Russell Wilson (Seattle) QB The 5-11 Wilson is far from the prototypical quarterback, but the third round draft pick is making believers out NFL fans and fantasy football owners this season. Able to throw as well as run, Wilson is revitalizing the Seahawk's attack. While his debut was adequate, Wilson's first half against the Cowboys in week two was a step in the right direction. Against Dallas, Wilson hit on 15 out of 20 passes including a 22 yard touchdown pass to TE Anthony McCoy in leading his team to victory. A poor man's version of RGIII, Wilson is certainly worth keeping an eye on this season. Ryan Tannehill (Miami) QB The 8th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Tannehill is now the heir apparent in Miami, and despite throwing three passes in the opener, he has now posted back to back +200 yards games. Fantasy wise he is not ready yet, but after securing his first NFL win against Oakland he may make a good backup during the second half of the season. WEEK 3: Here are the top performing rookies in week two of the 2012 season. Andrew Luck (Colts) QB The Colt's rookie continued to impress this week, especially on a perfectly thrown 40 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter against Jacksonville. Luck is turning out to be as good as advertised and by now has a good grasp on the Colt's playbook, enough that he should merit some late season consideration as a starter. So far this season Luck has been able to spread the ball around, connecting with five different receivers on his five different touchdown passes. Sure, he still makes rookie mistakes, like his 3rd quarter pickoff, but still there is a lot to like here. The fact that he will also pick up yards on the ground is a bonus. This week's stat line: 313 yards passing, 50 yards rushing, and 2 touchdowns. Doug Martin (Buccaneers) RB You have to start giving Martin some consideration for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year this season since he continues to shoulder a very heavy work load in Tampa Bay. Against Dallas, Martin rushed 19 times for 53 yards, breaking one run for 17 yards in the first quarter. He also added 21 yards receiving. Robert Griffin III (Redskins) QB RGIII did not enjoy a good first half against the Bengals, being held to 36 yards passing and another 23 on the ground. However the standout rookie picked it up in the second half to get his team back in the game and ended up with respectable fantasy totals. His stats for week three included 221 yards passing, 85 yards rushing and 2 total touchdowns. T.Y. Hinton (Colt) WR A 3rd round draft pick, Hinton has started to look impressive as both a deep threat receiver for Andrew Luck and a return man capable of breaking long gains. In fantasy leagues where return yardage count, Hinton makes for a valuable pickup, especially for teams lacking depths at the position. His 113 yards receiving against Jacksonville was capped off by a 40 yard touchdown reception. Hinton also added 55 return yards to his totals. Lamar Miller (Dolphins) RB It's a very crowded backfield right now in Miami with Miller sharing carries with Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas. Still the rookie managed to impress this week with 9 carries for 48 yards. His exploits included a 22 yard eun. If Reggie Bush's knee injury turns out to be serious, look for Miller's role to continue to grow. Trent Richardson (Browns) RB Richardson had nowhere to run in the first half against Buffalo and was held to just 16 total yards from scrimmage. However, he did score the Browns only touchdown in the first half with a 6 yard run. The task became no easier for Richardson in the second quarter, though he did show his versatility this week by catching 6 passes. Still, 41 yards from scrimmage is all he could muster Alfred Morris (Redskins) RB Sure, RGIII is the big man on campus in Washington, but Alfred Morris is a legit option at RB2 right now after another fine performance in week three. The 6th round draft pick has become a workhorse in Washington and this week picked up 78 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Brandon Weeden (Browns) QB He is never going to be the sexy rookie pick at quarterback, but Weeden continues to impress and is starting to merit backup consideration. Though he threw two picks this week, he also threw for 237 yards against a Bills defense which sacked him four time and nullified his running game. |
